Based on a design by planquadrat and on behalf of PG Holzhofpark GmbH & Co. KG, a new residential quarter is being constructed on the former site of the daily newspaper "Darmstädter Echo“, comprising eight apartment blocks with around 250 apartments. They offer a residential mix of one to four-room apartments. On the north side of the site a multi-storey car park will also be built and on the south west corner the existing former Echo publishing house will be maintained and converted.

The new buildings are characterised by treating the surrounding constructions sensitively: the urban structure takes on the existing system and the facade design reacts to the characteristics of the neighbouring constructions. While terraced buildings are arranged along Holzhofallee, Schöfferstraße and the multi-storey car park, tower blocks are developing inside the block and in the direction of Stephanstraße. This open building structure but also the road network with a series of very different squares opens the new residential area up into the surroundings.
